The central bank has honoured Dr Azizur Rahman and Dr Mahbub Hossain (Posthumous) through the Bangladesh Bank Award-2017 in recognition of their contribution to the economy.
Finance minister AMA Muhith Sunday handed over the awards to them at a ceremony held at Bangladesh Institute of Bank Management (BIBM) the city.
Ms Parvin Hossain, wife of Dr Hossain, received the award on behalf of him.
Mr Rahman, Professor Emeritus of University of California, USA has contributed immensely to the development of the nation by carried out researches on development planning, agricultural institute and land reforms, income distribution and inequality.
Mr Hossain, former executive director of Brac, had researches on rural economy and industry, poverty reduction, land reforms, agriculture, impact of micro-credit and marginalised farmers livelihood.
The central bank governor Fazle Kabir, among others, was present at the award giving ceremony.
Each of the award recipients has got a gold medal, a Bangladesh Bank crest and a cash amount of Taka 0.2 million.
A four-member jury board led by BB governor Fazle Kabir selected the recipients of the award.
