12m families to get Tk 5.74b from government

A total of over 12 million families would be benefited from the government's financial allocation of over Tk 5.74 billion during the Covid-19 pandemic, said the State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief DrMdEnamur Rahman on Sunday at a press briefing held at the ministry.

He also said the government allocated food assistance to the jobless people at the grassroot level during the pandemic last year.

And this year too upon the directives of the prime minister, the government has allocated over Tk5.74 billion as a humanitarian gesture to the people who became jobless due to the pandemic, he added.

The junior minister mentioned that the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief (MoDMR) has also allocated funds to all city corporations for purchasing baby food.

The corporations would purchase and distribute the baby food.

The government had allocated Tk 1.21 billion as GR (grant relief) cash while vulnerable group feeding or VGF Tk 4.72 billion.

The big-sized city corporations were allocated Tk 5.7 million while the small ones received Tk 3.2 million each.

Besides, money was also provided to pourashavas, union parishads or UPs.

MrEnamur Rahman said that deputy commissioners or DCs have always a fund each ranging from Tk0.2 million to 0.3 million in the face of any natural disaster.

For 'A' category district Tk 0.3 million has been allocated while for 'B' category Tk0.25 million and for 'C' category Tk 0.2 million.

He also said that each of about 3.5 million marginalised families will get Tk 2,500 through mobile banking service from the Prime Minister's Office.

Besides, farmers who were affected due to heat-shock would also get Tk 5,000 each, he added.

He stated that they had directed the ward councillors to provide food if anyone suffers from it.

Enamur mentioned that if anyone faces a food shortage can call the number 333 to get registered for getting food assistance from the government.

Disaster Management and Relief Secretary MdMohsin was also present during the press briefing.
