The central bank has waived the Probashi Kallyan Bank (PKB) from maintaining the stipulated statutory liquidity ratio (SLR) in line with the existing Banking Companies Act 1991.
The state-owned specialised bank has been exempted from keeping 13 per cent SLR with the Bangladesh Bank (BB) following the waiver, officials said.
The BB issued a notification in this connection on Wednesday. It said the central bank waived the PKB from maintaining the SLR as a specialised bank - to facilitate overseas jobs and create employment opportunities for the workers returning from aboard. The BB has given the waiver in line with Section 33 of the Banking Companies Act, according to the notification.
Earlier, the central bank provided such SLR waiver to three other public sector specialised banks.
