The size and expenditure of the annual development programme (ADP) has marked a significant increase over the past few years.
In the current fiscal year (FY) 18, the ADP has witnessed a 438 per cent growth compared to that of FY 10.
In FY18, ADP’s size is Tk 1.53 trillion which was Tk 285 billion in FY10, says official data.
State Minister for Finance and Planning MA Mannan, while talking to BSS, attributed this rise to relentless efforts from all stakeholders concerned and proper selection of projects.
Director of the Institute for Inclusive Finance and Development (InM) Dr Mustafa K Mujeri said this achievement is due to the country’s effort to attain Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030.
"The size of the ADP should be further enhanced to attain those targets," he added.
Mujeri also said the government needs to continue to focus on raising the institutional capacity to properly reap the benefits of development.
The Secretary of the Implementation, Monitoring and Evaluation Division (IMED) Md Mofizul Islam said ADP increased as the body has augmented its coverage of monitoring the development projects.
An official of the Planning Ministry from January 3 to December 26 of this year, the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) held 27 meeting where 253 projects were approved.
The total expenditure of the projects was estimated at Tk 4.84 trillion.
An official at the Planning Commission a project titled 'Mid-term evaluation of Perspective Plan (2010-2021) and formulation of Vision 2041' is being implemented to turn Bangladesh into a prosperous and developed one.
The total cost has been set at Tk 822 million.
In the first phase of the project, a mid-term evaluation will be done on the first Perspective Plan (2010-2021).
Then, in the second phase, the 2nd Perspective Plan (2021-2041) of the country will be formulated to further expedite the country's development.
The government is also going on with the Bangladesh Delta Plan 2100 aiming to formulate an integrated plan with financial assistance from the Netherlands.
A noteworthy number of transformational mega projects are also being implemented to further boost the country’s gross domestic product (GDP).
