The government has honoured 84 families from 64 districts for paying highest amount of taxes in fiscal 2016-17.
The families have got the ‘Kor Bahadur’ title for their contributions to national economy at district and national levels.
Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith handed over certificates of the title among the families at a programme on Wednesday, the last day of the 8th Income Tax Fair.
The National Board of Revenue (NBR) arranged the programme at its head office in Agargaon area of the capital.
Sixteen families from Dhaka and eight families from Chittagong received the honour.
A bdnews24.com report says, no one from Rangamati or Khagrhachharhi districts received the honour. The family of Mahbubur Rahman was awarded the honour from Bandarban in the Chittagong Hill Tracts.
Finance Minister AMA Muhith proposed honouring families with the title where all members are paying taxes for a long period of time in his budget speech given earlier this year.
He made the proposal to encourage taxpayers and thereby, meet his target to earn a third of revenue from income tax.
In English, the word ‘Kor’ means tax.
