Asian Development Bank (ADB) would provide US$540 million as concessional loans for skilled human resource development in tertiary education sector of Bangladesh, reports BSS.
“ADB will give $100m for improving computer and software engineering, $150m for advanced agriculture, $190m for Digital University development and $100 million for innovations in garment and textile”, said Sungsup Ra, Director, Human and Social Development Division, ADB.
This was disclosed by Sungsup Roy, when a six-member delegation led by him, called on University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh Chairman Professor Dr Kazi Shahidullah at UGC meeting room on Tueday, said a UGC press release.
UGC’s supervision role is very much important in handling these projects, Sungsup Ra said adding, “For this, DPP needs to be finalised soon. A strong leadership and necessary support from UGC are essential to push the ADB initiatives.”
The UGC Chairman said successful implementation of the project would play a significant role in human resource development, employment generation, ICT capacity building of the universities.
He said tertiary education is rapidly expanding in our country. “All the projects (ADB) are encouraging. It will certainly develop quality of education in tertiary level and enhance capacity building.”
UGC members Professor Dr Dil Afroza Begum, Professor Dr M Sazzad Hossain, Professor Dr Muhammed Alamgir Hossain and divisional heads of UGC were present.
