Fisheries and Livestock Minister SM Rezaul Karim on Sunday said he sent a proposal to the World Bank (WB) seeking about $100 million under its Livestock and Dairy Development Project (LDDP) as an emergency response fund for poultry and dairy sectors.
He also stated that a letter has been issued from the Fisheries and Livestock Ministry to the Finance Ministry seeking Tk 50 billion for providing loans to fisheries and livestock entrepreneurs.
Rezaul Karim revealed these while addressing a meeting at Livestock Department’s office in the city on working out plans for the sectors, as per a report on UNB agency.
The minister stated that his ministry has taken adequate measures to meet the crisis of fisheries and livestock sectors during the corona pandemic and also after the pandemic.
“The process to formulate a master plan to deal with the crisis in the sectors is underway and it’ll be ready within a week,” the minister said.
Rezaul Karim also said short-, mid- and long-term plans have been taken to tackle the crisis and make the ongoing activities of the ministry more dynamic.
Fisheries and Livestock Secretary Rawnak Mahmud, Livestock Department’s Director General Dr Abdul Jabbar Shikder, General Director of Bangladesh Livestock Institute Dr Nathuram Sarkar were, among others, present at the programme.
