Pizza Hut is one of the world's most popular global restaurant chains. The franchise, which had humble origins, has become synonymous with pizza in many parts of the globe.
According to its official blog, Pizza Hut started its journey in 1958 when two brothers, Dan and Frank Carney, from the city of Wichita, Kansas, United States of America, borrowed USD 600 from their mother to open a pizza place.
Their restaurant was named 'Pizza Hut' because the sign they were about to use only had space for 8 letters, and the rest, as they say, is history.
The restaurant was turned into a franchise after a year. In 1963, the idiosyncratic Pizza Hut style regarding their restaurant chains was designed by Chicago Architect George Lindstrom and implemented officially in 1969. Later on, in 1977, the company was acquired by PepsiCo.
Pizza Hut has received global acclaim for its signature Pan Pizza. It's a dish that, although reminiscent of the original Italian pizza in some ways, is its own thing and is heavily influenced by some of the traditional American-style pizzas, namely Chicago and Detroit Style Pizza.
Richer in calories, the Pan Pizza from Pizza Hut is synonymous with hangouts between friends and parties worldwide. It is not only a filling dish but also relatively easy to consume without worrying about the food being smeared on one's body.
Pizza Hut offers a lot of other dishes apart from their signature dish, and over the years, the list has kept increasing. Although Pizza Hut has been around for quite some time, In Bangladesh, they have not been around that long.
It opened its first outlet in 2003 and became one of the most popular fast food chains in a short time. Currently, there are as many as 17 outlets in Bangladesh of the Global Franchise, with 13 located in Dhaka and the other four located outside Dhaka.
When Pizza Hut first came to Bangladesh, the fast food scene here was still in its infancy. However, after all these years and despite having quite a vibrant fast food culture, especially in the capital city, Pizza Hut has not been dethroned by any other fast food chain.
Pizza Hut is a classic example of a rags-to-riches story, and it seems that the fast-food chain is nowhere in a position to lose its place among the most globally acclaimed restaurants in the world.
