Wrong-way driving is going on in full-swing in the capital despite the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) files over 200 cases on an average and fines several lakh taka per day.
Likewise other days, the DMP has filed 222 cases and fined several lakh taka on charges of driving on the wrong-side in a daylong drive on Sunday.
According to the available statistics of DMP in the last couple of months, it lodges over 200 cases for wrong side driving and over 2000 cases for traffic rule violations on an average per day, reports BSS.
On an average over 500 cases are being filed against motorcyclists and 30 are being seized everyday in the capital for violating of traffic rules.
The DMP file over 60 cases on an average per day in the capital for talking over mobile phone while driving.
Traffic division in their simultaneous drives on the city streets on Sunday filed a total of 2398 cases against different modes of vehicles for traffic rule violation and realized Tk 2.0 million (Tk 21.04 lakh) as fine, said an official release on Monday.
As many as 44 other cases for using hydraulic horn, seven for using hotter and beckon light and nine others for using tinted glass were filed.
Some 54 cases, including 34 video cases, were lodged against drivers of different modes of vehicles on charges of talking over mobile phone while they were driving.
It also dumped 69 vehicles and wrecked 649 others.
Besides, 683 cases were lodged against motorcycles and 50 motorbikes were seized for the traffic rule violations.
