World Vision celebrates 50 years of its journey in Bangladesh

World Vision Bangladesh celebrated its completion of 50 years of operations in the country with its former sponsored children on Saturday.

The former sponsored children, who are now all involved in successful careers and endeavours, also pledged to engage with World Vision’s development journey by taking initiatives to raise resources in future for development projects in World Vision communities across Bangladesh.

The projects, they will champion will be aimed towards helping vulnerable children, according to a press statement.

The event, titled ‘Sponsorship for Transformation’, was held in the capital where the former sponsored children and key members of senior management at World Vision Bangladesh gathered for the celebrations.

Sagor Marandy, director of Operations, Boniface Montu Rozario, sponsorship director, Chandan Z Gomes, senior director, Operations and Programme Quality, among others, addressed the event.

Shabnam Jahan Shila, MP, was present in the event as the chief guest.

Child sponsorship enables an inspirational, heart-felt connection between a sponsor and a child, creating life-enriching experiences for both. Child sponsorship programme began in Bangladesh in 1973 with just a handful of children at Durgapur (currently Netrakona) in Mymensingh.

Over the last fifty years, millions of children have been enrolled in the sponsorship programme as registered children (RC). Many former RCs are now thriving with established careers in a variety of sectors.

Currently, the sponsorship programme takes an integrated approach to child development, focusing on children’s participation in decision-making and improving community capacity for a safer environment for children.
