The Appellate Division on Thursday granted bail to a war crimes convict in a case filed for crime against humanity during the Liberation War in 1971.
Convict Abdul Kuddus, 87, of Sudharam in Noakhali, secured bail due to his severe illness.
A war crimes convict released on bail on health grounds is the first such incident in the country, reports BSS.
A four-member bench led by Syed Mahmud passed the order.
The court also ordered to submit, after six months, a health report by forming a medical board at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU).
On July 29, Appellate Division ordered to shift Kuddus to BSMMU for treatment as he got lung cancer.
Earlier on March 13, International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) sentenced Abdul Kuddus for 20 years of imprisonment for committing crimes against humanity at Noakhali during 1971.
