Virtual courts and tribunals have granted bail to 73,075 people in the last 55 working days until June 30 amid the countrywide strict lockdown to curb the spread of coronavirus.
Apart from this, a total of 3,420 people secured bail in 6,631 criminal petitions during the period from June 12 to June 30, Md Saifur Rahman, a special officer at the High Court Division told The Financial Express.
As many as 143,961 bail petitions were settled in the last 55 working days, he added.
The courts and tribunals have been hearing cases virtually for the second phase since April 12 as the country witnessed a sudden spike in coronavirus-related infections and fatalities.
Previously, in March last year, the Supreme Court suspended the operation of all courts amid the pandemic.
Later in May, President Abdul Hamid promulgated an ordinance allowing all courts to virtually conduct their trial proceedings.
