Violence along borders increased drastically in 2019: ASK

Incidents of violence along the country's borders increased drastically in 2019 compared to that of 2018, according to a report of a local independent rights body.

The Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK) report noted that a total of 43 Bangladeshis were killed in incidents of violence along the borders in 2019 while 14 were killed in 2018.

Some 37 people were shot dead and six others succumbed to physical torture in the border areas in 2019 while eight people were shot dead and six were tortured to death physically in 2018, the ASK report showed.

Apart from this, 34 people were also abducted during the same period in the borders and 48 others were injured, the report added.

The ASK prepared the data based on the published reports of some renowned national and regional daily newspapers in the country.
