Violence against women and children, specially the incidents of rape and murder, witnessed an alarming rise across the country in the first eleven months of the current calendar year, according to a report by Bangladesh Mahila Parishad (BMP).
As many as 1,312 incidents of rape occurred between January and November of 2019 while the number of rape incident stood at 686 during the same period in 2018, the report disclosed on Monday.
Some 450 victims were killed in the first eleven months of the previous year while the number rose to 513 this year, the report said.
The BMP report also revealed that a total of 4,300 incidents of violence against women and children was witnessed this year while the number was 3,783 in the previous year.
The women’s rights organisation prepared the report based on news published in 14 national dailies.
