The capital city witnessed a significant number of people, private cars, microbuses and motorbikes on the streets on Saturday, the 10th day of the ongoing lockdown, due to lax monitoring at some check-posts.
However, the policemen deployed at all entry and exit points of the capital were seen asking the people about the reasons for leaving the city.
If the reasons were found valid, people were allowed to leave the capital.
Visiting Gabtoli area on the day, the FE correspondent found that on-duty police were strictly enforcing the lockdown rules as they had asked all the car passengers and people about the reasons for leaving the city.
A traffic sergeant at Gabtoli check-post preferring anonymity said many people were going to nearby places outside the capital for their urgent purposes.
He said the people especially those involved with garment factory related work had to go to Savar, Dhamrai and even Manikganj. They were allowed to leave the capital, he added.
"We are not allowing the people to leave the city if they fail to give the valid reasons. We are also asking the car passengers and people about the reasons for entering the city."
He added: "If we get satisfactory answers from the people, then they are allowed to enter the capital otherwise not."
Police at check-posts in areas such as Signboard, Babubazar and Abdullahpur Bridges also wanted to know from the people for entering or leaving the capital city.
