The USA will always stand beside Bangladesh on Rohingya issue and global leaders should come forward to resolve the long-pending crisis.
US Ambassador in Dhaka Marcia Bernicat made the remarks on Wednesday at a meeting with the leaders of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) at its office in Dhaka, says a press release.
The envoy praised Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s leadership. She said Bangladesh has shown a humanitarian attitude to the forcedly displaced Rohingya people.
Bernicat said there was instability in Bangladesh following its national elections in the past and buyers may take into consideration the probable political instability over the upcoming national election while placing their orders.
The US envoy stressed the need for modernising Chittagong seaport with sophisticated machineries and equipment, and hiring skilled manpower to strengthen its capacity.
During the meeting, BGMEA president Md Siddiqur Rahman said the people of Bangladesh like no violence and there will be no unexpected situation in the country over the next general election.
BGMEA vice-president Mohammad Nasir and its directors Miran Ali and Md Munir Hossain were, among others, present at the meeting.
