‘Unvaccinated people won’t be allowed to take food in restaurants’

Health Minister Zahid Maleque says the government does not have a plan to enforce lockdown to control the fresh surge of Covid-19 cases in the country.

However, he informed that the government would intensify the preventive measures to rein in the transmission of the deadly virus.

“Unvaccinated people won’t be allowed to take food in restaurants. Only those who’ve received vaccines can enter restaurants showing their vaccine certificates,” the minister said.

The minister gave the information after an inter-ministerial meeting on the issue of the new Covid variant Omicron at the Secretariat on Monday, reports UNB.

He warned that the restaurants will be fined if they defy this rule.

Zahid Maleque said the Cabinet Division will issue a directive in this regard within 15 days.

Replying to a question, he said the Covid-19 situation in the country has not yet reached such a stage that lockdown should be enforced. “We’re not thinking about a lockdown at this moment.”

The minister said they will focus on 100 per cent masking to prevent the spike in Covid-19 cases. “All must wear masks everywhere. Those who will flout the rule will be fined.”

Besides, he said, if anyone gets into public transport without a mask will be fined by a mobile court.
