Director General of United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) LI Yong will arrive Dhaka on Wednesday on a three-day official visit.
The UNIDO chief will lead a four-member official mission to Bangladesh during his visit, reports UNB.
He will reach Dhaka from Bangkok on the second leg of his mission to Asia Pacific Region, a handout said.
During the visit, Yong is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, and have a formal bilateral meeting with Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu.
Besides, he will meet the Finance, Commerce and Foreign Ministers.
The UNIDO DG will attend a seminar on Inclusive and Sustainable Industrial Development (ISID) for achieving SDG-9 in Bangladesh.
He is scheduled to visit Dhaka Export Processing Zone and Savar Tannery Estate to have a firsthand experience on Bangladesh’s achievement of certain level of industrial development in the country through establishment of industrial parks (EPZs and Industrial Estates) as well as the strategy and plan of accelerating inclusive industrial development and economic growth.
LI will also visit Bangabandhu Memorial Museum at Dhanmondi 32 in the city.
The visit is expected not only to further bolster cooperation of UNIDO with Bangladesh, but also to expedite the formulation of a structured and projected UNIDO services intervention in Bangladesh incorporating Bangladesh’s further needs for inclusive industrial development by way of the UNIDO Country Programme: 2017-2022 for Bangladesh that is in the making.
In Bangladesh, UNIDO has so far completed 42 projects with a total expenditure of around USD 35 million.
