ULAB holds report launching ceremony

The Centre for Enterprise and Society (CES) at the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) organised on Monday a launching of the research report for the Undergraduate Academic Experience Survey (UAES) 2016-17, according to a press release.

Chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC) Prof Abdul Mannan was present as the chief guest while ULAB Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof Jahirul Haque started off the event.

The event also had a high-level panel of Independent University Bangladesh (IUB) VC Prof Omar Rahman, Asia Pacific University VC Prof Jamilur Reza Chowdhury and Professor of English Department Syed Manzoorul Islam.

The panel was moderated by Professor Imran Rahman, Dean, School of Business.

Also in attendance were Taheerah Haq, member, board of trustees, ULAB; Professor Syed Saad Andaleeb, VC of BRAC University; Professor Abdur Rab, VC of Eastern University; and Professor William Derrenger, VC of  Canadian University of Bangladesh, among other notable delegates from different leading universities. Sajid Amit, Director, CES, ULAB, conducted a presentation of the survey findings.

Among the salient findings of this survey are that around two-thirds of undergraduate students are somewhat or very satisfied with their undergraduate experience. The primary drivers of satisfaction are good teaching methods and positive attitude of faculty towards students. The primary driver of dissatisfaction appears to be mental and emotional health. Other salient findings include the fact that English majors are the most likely to report high levels of satisfaction.
