Eleven people were killed and 19 others were injured in two separate accidents in Palashbari upazila of Gaibandha on Saturday.
The two accidents occurred in Nuniagari and Jundaha areas of the upazila on Saturday.
Palashbari Police Station Inspector Mustafizur Rahman said a freight truck carrying rods to Rangpur veered into a ditch as it attempted to skirt a bicycle on the road in Jundaha around 11:30am on Saturday.
“Seven people on the truck, including a woman, were killed,” he said.
Eight others were admitted to the Palashbari Upazila Medical Complex with injuries.
The police and fire service are conducting rescue operations. The identities of the casualties have yet to be released.
Police believe some day labourers had boarded the truck as a cheap way to travel from Dhaka to Nilphamari.
In another accident, four people were killed at Niniyagaria area of the upazila.
Twelve others were injured as a bus rammed into a passenger vehicle, killing three people on the spot.
The fourth died later on.
Three of the deceased were identified as construction workers Zakir Hossain, 25, Khasru Mia, 55 and Raju Mia, 28.
Gobindaganj Highway Police Inspector Abul Basar said the Bogra-bound bus hit punctured a tire near the Sarkar Petrol Station, causing it to veer out of control and hit the other vehicle, according to bdnews24.com.
Four of the wounded were rushed to Bogra’s Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital while the rest were admitted to the Palashbari Upazila Health Complex.
