Two students of Dhaka’s Shaheed Ramiz Uddin Cantonment College have been killed and several others injured after they were struck by a bus on Airport Road.
The accident occurred at around 12:30 am on Sunday, following which students from the educational institution took to the streets and blocked the road in protest.
Several cars in the area were vandalised, said Cantonment Police Station ASI Rezaul Islam.
Shaheed Ramiz Uddin Cantonment College is on either side of Airport Road near the Banani Flyover, the police official said.
“The students were trying to cross the road in a gap near the Radisson Hotel. Many were waiting for the bus on the footpath. A Jabale Noor Paribahan bus then ran over the students, killing two on the spot.”
After the accident students took to the streets in protest and vandalised several vehicles, he said, bdnews24 reported.
“We are trying to divert traffic to other roads because of the protest,” said Traffic Police Control Room In-Charge SI Munni Akhtar. “Police at the scene are trying to bring the situation under control.”
