Truck owners and workers went on strike in Dhaka division from Sunday morning to press home their seven-point demand, including amendment to the Road Transport Act-2018.
Abdul Motaleb, general secretary of Bangladesh Truck-Covered Van and Transport Agency Owners' Association, said they stopped plying of truck and covered van from 6:00am.
No truck and covered van left and entered the city since the morning, according to a UNB report.
He said that there is a provision in the act if it is proved through investigation that the death in a road accident is deliberate, it will be regarded as a punishable offence under Section 302 of the Penal Code. But the drivers do not kill anyone deliberately, he further said.
"If the government does not take any initiative to amend the law, we will enforce indefinite strike," Motaleb threatened.
