TIB for adequate adaptation fund for LDCs

The Transparency International, Bangladesh (TIB) demanded the grant-based funding pledged by industrialised nations to adapt and mitigate the effects of climate change to the affected countries.

The first ever 'Global Climate Action Day' is going to be observed on September 25. Organised by the global school student movement 'Fridays for the Future', they demand that political leaders take effective steps to mitigate climate change and ensure increased use of renewable fuels instead of fossil fuels.

TIB, in a media statement on Thursday, expressed solidarity with the ethical movement of schoolchildren around the world against the polluting activities responsible for climate change.

TIB Executive Director Iftekharuzzaman in the statement put emphasis on meeting the commitment that was made in the Paris Agreement in the face of increasing global risks of climate change to mitigate the global temperature by at least 2.0 degrees Celsius compared to the pre-industrial era.

Mr Zaman said the risk of global greenhouse gas emissions is growing alarmingly as countries, including the major carbon-emitting United States, have taken opposite positions in the wake of the current Covid-19 crisis in the name of reviving the global economy.

TIB believes that the global climate crisis would be escalated in the future unless the industrialised nations control their greenhouse gas emissions and ensure the promised compensation to the affected countries.

It urged schoolchildren to unite and take forward the 'Fridays for the Future' movement in order to reduce greenhouse gas emissions without delay and to ensure the promised funds to the affected countries.
