Three workers die in Sylhet stone quarries

Three workers were killed in two separate incidents while extracting stones from a quarry in Lampapani area of Jaflong and Companiganj upazila in Sylhet on Tuesday.

The deceased have been identified as Nazimuddin, 25, son of Nur Mia of Daubari village of Gowainghat upazila, Usman Ali, 30, son of Joynal Abedin of Jamkandi village of the same upazila and Ekhlas, 30, according to a UNB report.

The victims Nizamuddin and Usman sustained injuries as a metal pipe of a dredging machine hit them hard while collecting stones from the quarry around 4:00pm, said Delwar Hossain, officer-in-charge of Gowainghat Police Station.

On information, police rushed to the quarry and took the victim to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital where the doctor declared them dead, the OC added.

On the other hand, Ekhlas was killed as a chunk of mud of collapsed on him while he was extracting stones at Shah Arefin Quarry at about 7:00pm, said Shariful Islam Khan, officer-in-charge of Campaniganj Police Station.
