Three policemen injured in gunfight with ‘yaba peddlers’ in city

Three policemen were injured in a gunfight with suspected yaba peddlers in the capital’s Gendaria area on Thursday afternoon.

Police also arrested a suspect with gunshot wounds and recovered 2,000 yaba tablets at the scene, Sadhana Oushadhalay lane.

The injured police personnel are Gendaria Police Station assistant sub-inspectors Mosharraf Hossain and Mohsin Ali and constable Bashir Uddin.

Inspector Mahbubul Alam said the three injured policemen were being treated at a hospital in the area.

He said the trio went to the area on two motorcycles around 4:30pm after getting information that a large cache of yaba was delivered.

“They retaliated when one of the drug peddlers opened fire,” he said.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police Assistant Commissioner Shamsuzzaman said the three policemen suffered bullet injuries in their hands and legs.

He said the injured suspect was ‘Jewel’, 19. A woman, ‘Sonia’, 27, was also arrested, reports bdnews24.com.
