Another three suspected drug pedlars were killed in separate purported gunfights with members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and DB police in Rajshahi and Gazipur on Thursday night and early Friday.
With the latest one, some 101 people were killed during ‘gunfights’ with members of law enforcement agencies while 30 bodies of drug traders were recovered after reported gun battles among rival groups from May 15.
In Rajshahi, Belal and Nazmul, the top listed drug traders, according to the home ministry list, of Karamja village were killed in a ‘gun battle’ at Karamja village in Pabaupazila on Thursday night.
Tipped off, a team of them conducted a drive in the area around 11 pm, said Major SM Ashraful Islam, deputy commander of RAB-5.
Sensing presence of the elite force, the alleged drug traders reportedly opened fire on them.
When the elite force members fired back in ‘self-defence’, the ‘drug pushers’ fled the scene.
The RAB team recovered two people injured with bullets and took them to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital where doctors declared them dead.
Huge drugs and arms were also recovered from the scene. Both of the dead were wanted in several cases.
