Three killed in Dhamrai road accident

Three people were killed and eight others injured after a head-on collision between a bus and a pick-up van on Dhaka-Aricha Highway in Bathuli area of Dhamrai upazila in Dhaka on Monday morning.

Police identified one of the deceased as Anwar Hossain, a meter reader of Palli Bidyut Samity.

The accident took place around 7:30am when Satkhira-bound ‘Falguni Paribahan' bus collided with the Dhaka-bound pick-up van, leaving the trio dead on the spot.

Eight others, including a minor, were critically injured, said Dipak Kumar Saha, officer-in-charge of Dhamrai Police Station.

The bus was confiscated but the driver managed to flee.

A total of 8,543 people were killed and 14,318 others injured in 6,210 road, railway and waterway accidents across the country last year, according to Bangladesh Jatri Kalyan Samity, a passengers’ welfare organization, reports UNB.
