A 15-year-old boy was arrested on Thursday for allegedly raping a first grader under Baniachong upazila in Habiganj last week.
The accused, a resident of Umarpur village, is a class VIII student at Kadirganj High School.
Police and the victim's family said that the boy took the girl to a room when she was playing in the yard of her house on Tuesday afternoon.
Hearing the victim's scream, her family members rescued her. Initially, the family of the accused tried to settle the matter internally.
But the victim's mother filed a case with Baniachong police. The 'rapist' was detained and interrogated by Sub-Inspector Monir of Markuli Navy Police Outpost on Thursday.
The boy reportedly confessed to raping the first grader.
He also reportedly gave the same statement before the court on Friday afternoon. The court also recorded the child's statement who was later hospitalised. The suspect was sent to jail.
The incident came to light after the victim was admitted to Habiganj Sadar Modern Hospital for medical tests.
Bangladesh has recently seen a rise in incidents of rape across the country.
Earlier this month, another first grader was allegedly raped by her neighbour in the upazila's Kakura village.
