Traffic is moving slowly in Munshiganj’s Gazaria on Dhaka-Chattogram highway, leading a tailback to continue.
On Friday, the tailback stretched on a 13-kilometre portion of the highway from Meghna Bridge to Meghna-Gomati Bridge.
Police say the four-lane highway has been experiencing traffic congestion for some days as the bridges have only two lanes.
Bhaberchar High Police Camp In-Charge Md Alamgir Hossain said the work to develop the bridges to four-lane ones was under way, and once it is done, the problem would be solved permanently.
He said the situation was better on the first day of Ramadan, reports bdnews24.com.
“Trucks from Chattogram are carrying lentil, oil, gram and other Iftar ingredients to Dhaka. The vehicles stuck in Feni have also started to come,” he said.
In past few days, it took 17 to 18 hours to cross the highway while it usually takes only six to seven hours.
