A madrasa student was killed and 50 others were injured in a fierce clash between two groups at a religious congregation in Sylhet on Monday night.
The deceased was identified as Mozammel Hossain, a student of Horipur Madrasa.
The incident took place around 11:30pm Monday at Aambari in Jaintapur upazila where Sunni Muslims organised Waz Mahfil, an Islamic lecture, said local OC Khan Md Moinul Zakir.
“Followers of Wahabi ideology clashed with the Sunnis, leaving a student dead on the spot.”
Later, the injured were taken to different hospitals.
Traffic on the Sylhet-Tamabil highway came to a standstill as the clash continued for about four hours. Police, however, brought the situation under control, reports bdnews24.com.
