There need a legislative and policy action to end child labour and to protect young workers involved in domestic work in the country, speakers said at a roundtable on Monday.
They also called for proper cooperation and coordination among government, workers and employers’ organisations, civil society groups, and internationals organisations to help prevent multiple abuses like physical, mental, verbal and sexual of the child domestic workers.
In support with Terre Des Hommes Netherlands and Global March Against Child Labour , Bangladesh Shishu Adhikar Forum (BSAF), a platform of child rights organisations, organised the roundtable, titled ‘Situation of Child Domestic Worker & Human Rights: Protection, Challenges and Way Forward’ at Daily Star Centre in Dhaka city.
Human rights activist Advocate Sultana Kamal, also a former caretaker government adviser spoke there as the chief guest, BSAF Chairperson Dr Khawja Shamsul Huda in the chair.
Country Director of Terre Des Hommes Netherlands Mahmudul Kabir, and Country Director of Shapla Neer Bangladesh Office Tomoko Uchiyama also spoke as special guests.
BSAF Director Abdus Shahid Mahmood gave the address of welcome.
