Sixth population census from Jan 2 next year

The country is going to conduct the sixth 'Population Census and Household Listing 2021' aiming to get most authentic data.

For the first time, the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) will carryout population census and household listing at a time.

The census will be conducted between January 2 and January 8 in 2021.

It was disclosed at the inaugural workshop on the Population Census and Household Listing 2021, organised by BBS at its Auditorium in the capital.

Planning minster MA Mannan inaugurated the workshop as the chief guest, while statistics and information management secretary Dr Saurendra Nath Chakrabarty chaired the function.

BBS Director General Tajul Islam delivered the welcome address.

Cabinet secretary Khandker Anwarul Islam, principal secretary to the Prime Minister Dr Ahmed Kaykaus spoke as special guests while UNFPA Bangladesh representative Dr Asa Torkelsson was the guest of honour.

Project director of the population census Zahidul Haque Sarder said that the BBS will start the household mapping from next month as the first step towards the census.

Both Bangladeshi expatriates in abroad and foreigners living in Bangladesh will also be come under the census, he said.
