Attorney General Mahbubey Alam reiterated that it is highly unlikely for Chief Justice SK Sinha to rejoin office as the other Appellate Division judges refused to sit with him.
"I'd earlier said SK Sinha's retaking the duties as the Chief Justice is a far cry. I'm repeating it today. In the present content, sitting in the courtroom and conducting judicial activities for him are highly unlikely," news agency UNB quoted him as saying.
While addressing a press conference at his Supreme Court office on Sunday, the chief state law officer also said, "How will he (Sinha) conduct the judicial activities alone if other judges don't want to sit with him?"
The Chief Justice left for Australia on October 13. While leaving his official residence for the airport, Sinha said he would return home and rejoin the office. However, the Supreme Court in a statement the following day said the Chief Justice faced 11 specific charges, including 'moral turpitude and corruption'.
The Chief Justice was widely criticised by ministers and ruling party leaders for his observations made in the verdict that had annulled the 16th amendment to the Constitution.
SK Sinha assumed office on January 17, 2015 as Bangladesh's 21st Chief Justice. He will go on retirement on January 31 next.
