Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Atiqul Islam on Friday warned of shutting down the shops unless their owners or employees are vaccinated with at least one dose of Covid-19 jabs.
He also said the government has undertaken all necessary initiatives to provide the jabs free of cost and also special campaigns to reach people from all walks of lives.
"Whoever has not got vaccinated with any shots, will face actions as the government has facilitated the jabbing programmes. Even the shops will be forced to close unless owners or staff cannot show vaccine certificate. " he said.
The mayor came up with the warning while he was visiting the Covid-19 booth for mass vaccination in the city's Dakshinkhan rail gate area, a statement said.
He also said vaccination has been made easier as one can avail it only using mobile phone number.
Earlier the process was complex for many as there was obligation to show documents upon registering online, he added.
"A phone number is now enough to get a Covid-19 jab," he said urging the people: "Please get vaccinated, our vaccination centres are open even on holidays."
Mayor Atiqul Islam visited the DNCC vaccination centres established in Zone-1, 7 and 8 areas from Friday morning.
