At least seven people were infected with anthrax after eating meat of a sick cow in Haropara and Bhabanipur villages in Bhangura upazila on Sunday.

 

The infected were identified as Nazrul Islam, 28; Biplob, 25; Shahjahan Ali, 35; Bablu, 40; Sayeem, 35; Sabuj, 28 and Mantu, 30. All of them are involved with cattle trading, reports UNB.

 

Locals said earlier on Friday a cow of neighbouring village in Faridpur upazila was slaughtered as it fell sick.

 

Later in the day, seven people of Haropara village cut the meat and ate those with the evening meal.

 

Few hours later they started falling sick with blisters on hands and legs and pain.

 

Confirming the matter, Md Shahadat Hossain, health and family planning officer of Upazila Health Complex, said that they have already taken necessary measures in this regard.
