Chief Justice Hasan Foez Siddique with consultation with the other judges of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court has suspended half day proceedings of the both the divisions of the highest court on Monday in honour of Khandker Mahbub Hossain, a veteran jurist who died on Saturday night.
The Chief Justice announced the decision before a namaz-e-janaza that was held at the Supreme Court premises after the Zuhr prayers on Sunday.
Khandker Mahbub’s fourth namaz-e-janaza was held at the Supreme Court premises. After the namaz-e-janaza floral wreaths had been placed on behalf of the Chief Justice, Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA), Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Forum (JAF), and other organisations.
Chief Justice Hasan Foez Siddique, other judges of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court, High Court division judges, Attorney General AM Amin Uddin, former advisor to the caretaker government Barrister Mainul Hosein, former SCBA presidents Advocate Zainul Abedin and AJ Mohammad Ali, Supreme Court Bar Association Secretary Abdun Nur Dulal, among others, were present at the janaza.
Later, his body was taken to his residence at Malibagh Chowdhury Para in the city. He will be buried in the Azimpur graveyard on Monday after another namaz-e-janaza in Malibagh Chowdhury Para, said his junior lawyer Masud Rana.
Eminent jurist and former president of the Supreme Court Bar Association Khandker Mahbbub died at a hospital in the capital on Saturday night. He was 84.
Khandker Mahbub, also a vice-chairman of the BNP, breathed his last at 10:45 pm while undergoing treatment at the Evercare Hospital, said Mohammad Shishir Manir, another junior lawyer of Khandker Mahbub.
He was on life support at the hospital since Wednesday. He had been suffering from different health complications. Khandker Mahbub left behind his wife, two sons and a daughter and a host of admirers to mourn his death.
He was born on March 20 in 1938. He ancestral home in Bamna upazila in Barguna district. After obtaining a law degree from Dhaka University, he joined the legal profession and got enlisted as a lawyer in the Dhaka High Court in 1967.
