The Supreme Court (SC) administration has scaled down the lower court activities to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
A circular signed by the SC Registrar General Ali Akbar was issued on Sunday in this regard, reports UNB.
According to the circular, all activities except bail, temporary injunction and other emergencies will remain suspended until further notice.
On March 19, the SC directed for not producing jail inmates in trial court.
Meanwhile, the apex court is on vacation which will end on March 28. However, lawyers have urged for extending the leave.
Besides, Attorney General Mahbubey Alam met Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain on Sunday afternoon to place his suggestion about whether the court activities would be suspended following the coronavirus outbreak.
After the meeting, the attorney general said he suggested that the court activities be suspended in this critical moment.
The decision in this regard will be taken within March 26 after reviewing what steps the executive has taken, he said.
President of Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) Advocate AM Amin Uddin said they are also in favour of suspending the court activities.
He said they will meet the Chief Justice on Monday to this end.
Meanwhile, three more people have been diagnosed with coronavirus in Bangladesh, taking the number of total cases to 27 in the country.
The number of globally confirmed coronavirus cases rose to more than 300,000 on Sunday.
So far, the virus has claimed 13,068 lives -- a mortality rate of 12 per cent, according to Worldometer.
