Russian Embassy in Dhaka and Bangla Press Club Russia have remembered Russian poet Alexander Pushkin on the occasion of his 219th birth anniversary.
The two bodies jointly organised a discussion and recitation ceremony at the Russian centre of Science and Cultural in Dhaka on Sunday.
Bangladeshi students studying in Russia joined the programme through a video conference.
The day is celebrated as the Language Day in Russia, said a press release.
Speakers said that Pushkin was named as the father of modern Russian literature and 'the sun of Russian poetry'.
"Pushkin created his own language without following the established language of the elderly. Although he is a poet, he is also successful in writing novel," they said.
Alexander P. Demin, director of the Russian centre of Science and Culture in Dhaka, presided over the ceremony.
Presented at the meeting, director wife Natalia Demina, head of the cultural programme section Proshanta Kumar Barman; Syed Bazlul Hasan, education section in-charge; Yeasmin Sultana, teacher of Russian language course.
Barek Kaiser, President of the Bangla Press Club Russia, participated in the discussion.
Poetry recited - Faisal Alam, Mazharul Islam Sunny, and Syed Mehedi Hasan Students attended the Higher Education Studies in Russia, Zia Uddin, Ashraf Uddin, Khandakar Shah Shahriar, Soumitra Basak Niloy, Jannatul Tazreen Gadhvi, Rezaul Karim Shant, Md. Matiur Rahman, Tabassum Kishwar Rafa, Faria Islam and Md. Zahid Hasan.
