Rohingya have no right to move freely in Bangladesh, Momen says

The Rohingya refugees, who have taken shelter in Bangladesh after fleeing a crackdown in Myanmar, are not eligible to get the right to freedom of movement in Bangladesh.

At a media briefing on Sunday, Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen came up with the statement while responding to a question over demand of international agencies.

“We will not give the Rohingya refugees the rights, which a Bangladeshi citizen does enjoy,” he added.

The minister said, “The government is concerned about the security of the Rohingyas and that is why the Rohingya camps are being fenced.”

Asked to comment on the UN envoy’s concern over ARSA, a platform of Rohingya insurgents, in Bangladesh, the minister said that the government has not found the existence of ARSA in Bangladesh.

“If they can identify them, or know where ARSA members live, they should tell us. We will take due action,” the minister added.

Momen also blamed officials of refugee agencies for the delay in the quick repatriation of Rohingya refugees.
