Road crashes claim 13 lives on Friday

A total of 13 people were killed in separate road accidents in six upazilas of five districts across the country on Friday.

In Raipur of Narsingdi, four motorcyclists were killed when a bus hit their motorbike on Dhaka-Sylhet highway at Charabagh in the morning.

The deceased were identified as Ramjan Miah, 17, son of Asad Choukidar, Dalim Miah, 14, son of Hafizuddin, Sohagh Miah, 18, son of Sharif Miah of Morjal in Raipura upazila, and bike driver Yamin, 25, of Putia in Shibpur upazila.

Delwar Hossain, officer-in-charge of Raipura Police Station, said the Dhaka-bound bus from Bhairab smashed the bike carrying four people around 8:10 am, leaving all the riders killed on the spot.

On information, police recovered the bodies and sent those to local hospital morgue.

In Madhabdi of Narsingdi, three people -- a rickshaw-puller, a passenger and a pedestrian -- were killed as a Habiganj-bound bus losing control over its wheel rammed a rickshaw from behind on Dhaka-Habiganj highway in front of Birampur Palli Bidyut office around 1:30 pm.

The deceased were identified as rickshaw-puller Ilias Ali, 32, passenger Ratan Miah, 45, and pedestrian Makbul Miah, 40.

Meanwhile, a couple was killed when a private car hit their motorcycle on Dhaka-Sylhet highway in Panchdona area around 3:30 pm.

The deceased were Aminul Haque, 35, and his wife Mansura Begum, 30, said Ilias Miah, officer-in-charge of Madhabdi Police Station.

In Cox's Bazar sadar upazila, a woman was killed and six others injured in a head on collision between a minibus and a human hauler on Chattogram-Cox's Bazar highway at Rashidnagar on Friday afternoon.

The deceased was identified as Kulsum Akhter, wife of Abdur Rahim, a resident of Chander Ghona in the upazila.

Being informed, police recovered the body from the spot and sent it to sadar hospital for autopsy, said Mozahidul Islam, officer-in-charge of Ramu Highway Police.

In Joypurhat sadar upazila, an old man was killed when a bus run over his motorcycle in the evening.

The deceased was identified as Jabedul Islam, 67, a resident of Kutibari area in the upazila.

The accident took place around 6pm, leaving him critically injured.

Later, he died at sadar hospital while undergoing treatment, said Md Mominul Haq, officer-in-charge of Joypurhat Police Station.

In Bogura sadar upazila, a person was killed when a CNG-run auto-rickshaw hit him from behind at Mazira bypass area in the morning.

The deceased was identified as Alamgir Hossain Alam, 52, son of Makbul Hossain of Shahjahanpur upazila.

On information, police recovered the body and sent it to Shahid Ziaur Rahman Meidcal College Hospital for autopsy, said Masud Rana, sub-inspector of Shahjahanpur Police Station, reports UNB.

In Lalmonirhat, a man was killed when a truck run over him at Hatibandha in the afternoon.

The deceased was identified as Joynal Abedin, 50.

The accident took place as a brick-laden truck run over him while he was going to bazar, leaving spot dead, said Omar Faruk, officer-in-charge of Hatibandha Police Station.

Later, police recovered the body from the spot.
