At least seven people were killed in separate road accidents in Khulna and Tangail districts on Friday.
In Khulna, four people were killed as a CNG auto-rickshaw plunged into a ditch after being hit by a truck on the Khulna-Satkhira Highway at Dumuria upazila of Khulna district on Friday.
The deceased were identified as CNG driver Ilias Sardar, 45, son of Zakaria Sardar of Sharafpur in Dumuria, Reshma Khatun, 32, daughter of Mohiuddin of Rudaghara village. The identities of two others are yet to be known, reports UNB.
The accident occurred when a sand-laden truck hit the CNG on Khulna-Satkhira Highway near the east Jilerdanga area around 2:00 pm and then the CNG plunged into a roadside ditch.
After four hours of frantic effort, the fire service recovered four bodies from the ditch at 6:00 pm. However, the CNG could not be recovered.
Obaidur Rahman, Officer-in-charge of Dumuria Police Station, said they detained the truck driver Rakib Sheikh over the accident.
In Tangail, three people were killed in a three-way collision involving a bus, a covered van, and a truck in Kalihati upazila of Tangail district.
Another person was injured in the accident which took place on the Dhaka-Bangabandhu Bridge Highway in Bhabla around 11:00 am Friday, said Inspector Md Shahidul Islam of Bangabandhu Bridge East Police.
The authorities could not immediately identify the victims, reports bdnews24.com.
An eastbound covered-van was attempting to overtake a truck when it collided head-on with a 'Uttara Express' bus, according to the police.
The van veered into the truck on impact, killing one person instantly. Two others died in hospital, said Inspector Shahidul.
The injured victim is undergoing treatment at Tangail's 250-Bed General Hospital.
