Road clashes claim nine lives in four districts

At least nine people have been killed and 30 others injured in separate road accidents in Mymensingh, Chattogram, Brahmanbaria, and Tangail districts.

In Mymensingh, two people were killed and seven others injured in a road accident in front of Bagar Bazar petrol pump area on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway in Trishal upazila of the district on Wednesday.

The deceased were identified as Rima Akhter, 20, daughter of Alauddin, of Randia village under Bhaluka upazila, and Sabbir Miah, 26, son of Nabi Hossain, resident of the same area, reports BSS.

Officer-in-charge (OC) of Trishal Police Station Main Uddin said the accident took place when a Dhaka-bound truck hit a Leguna in the area at around 7.30 am, leaving nine Leguna passengers injured.

Later, the injured were taken to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital where two of them succumbed to their injuries. Police seized the vehicles, but the drivers managed to flee away, the OC added.

In Chattogram, two people were killed and another injured when a bus knocked them down outside Chattogram University in Hathazari upazila of the district on Wednesday.

The deceased were identified as Nasir Uddin, 55, and Mohammad Rubel Hossain, 25 of the Fatehabad area, reports UNB.

The accident occurred in the morning when the Chattogram-bound bus hit three people while they were unloading goods from a pick-up van near the road, leaving three people injured.

The injured were taken to a local hospital where the doctors declared two of them dead.

In Brahmanbaria, two workers were killed after a vehicle hit them on Dhaka-Sylhet Highway in the Sonaram area in the districts on Wednesday.

Police recovered the bodies from the area and sent them to the morgue for autopsies, said Sub-Inspector Md Rafiul Karim of Khatihata Highway Police Station.

Ujjal Miya, a worker at Khan Auto Rice Mill, said two people were found dead at the scene. Miya identified one of them as Md Haider Ali of Majhipara area in Dinajpur district, who was his co-worker.

Police could not provide any details about the identity of the victims or the type of vehicle that had hit them, reports bdnews24.com.

In Tangail, at least one person was killed and 20 others injured after a passenger bus fell into a roadside ditch at Gungram area in Ghatail upazila of the district on Wednesday.

The deceased was identified as Snehalata (95) of Pathrail village in Delduar upazila of Tangail district.

Locals said the accident took the place when a Mymensingh-bound bus of Prantik Paribahan from Tangail lost control and plunged into the ditch, according to a private television channel.

Police, locals, and Fire Service jointly rescued the injured and sent them to Mymensing Medical College Hospital and Tangail General Hospital.
