Agitated workers of a readymade garment factory blocked the Dhaka-Aricha Highway for at least five hours demanding their arrears on Tuesday.
Around 600 workers of 'Abbas Apparels' blocked the highway at Savar Bus stand around 10:30am and later withdrew it around 3:30pm after the local MP Enamur Rahman assured them of resolving the matter.
The protesting workers said they did not get any salary since January while the authorities had failed to fulfil their promises several times.
Lastly, the authority was scheduled to pay the arrears on Tuesday morning but cancelled it later, the workers alleged.
Officer-in-charge of Savar Model Police Station Mohsinul Kadir said they had tried to contact the authorities concerned but failed to do so as the factory owner Abbas Uddin was on the run.
Meanwhile, a 10-kilometer tailback was created on the highway since morning due to five-hour blockade which caused great sufferings to the commuters, reports UNB.
