Rifat murder: Police issue red alert against suspects

Police have issued a red alert at all international airports, land and riverports across the country in order to prevent those suspected in the murder of Rifat Sharif from fleeing abroad.

Authorities of the ports have already been asked to take necessary measures about this, said Sohel Rana, an assistant inspector general (media) at the Police Headquarters on Friday.

The red alert came a day after the High Court ordered the government to issue it and the law enforcement agencies to arrest the murder suspects without delay, according to local media reports.

Three of the accused have already been arrested and their interrogation is on, said the AIG adding that they have put in maximum efforts to arrest the others accused in the case.

Earlier on Wednesday, a resident of Sadar upazila, Rifat, 22, was hacked to death by four miscreants in front of the Barguna Government College.

A video of the incident has gone viral in which his wife was seen desperately trying to protect him.

A case was filed with the local police by the victim's father against 12 people, five to six of them unnamed.
