'Removing Islamophobia among key objectives  of Dhaka OIC meet'

Apart from Rohingya issue, removing ‘Islamophobia’ from global mindset will be one of the main objectives of the Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) of the Organisation of the Islamic Countries (OIC), which starts in Dhaka city on Saturday.

Over 550 delegates, including 40 ministers and state ministers from the OIC member countries, will attend this 45th CFM of the OIC, Foreign Minister AH Mahmood ALi told a media briefing at his ministry on Thursday.

He said a special session will be held on the Rohingya issue in the CFM, where the delegates from OIC countries will present their opinions to resolve the issue.

Besides, the delegates will visit Rohingya camps in Cox’s Bazar on Friday to have a first-hand assessment of the situation.

Ali said the Canadian foreign minister will be the special guest in the inaugural CFM session.

The foreign ministers of Sweden and Germany were also invited, considering the contribution of these countries for the welfare of Muslim refugee migrants but they expressed their inability to come due to their domestic situation, he said.

According to the minister, internal conflicts among Muslim countries, humanitarian crisis faced by Muslim community across the world and socio economic development of the OIC member countries will be the discussed in the CFM.

Ali said Bangladesh has made significant progress in women empowerment, socio-economic development, maintaining religious harmony, fighting the impact of climate change and containing terrorism.

"We want to highlight these achievements in this conference."

Through holding this CFM, the minister said, Bangladesh will have the scope of brightening its image not only among the OIC member countries but also in the world.
