The body of Zakia Sultana Rupa, the college girl who was gang-raped and murdered, has been exhumed and handed over to her family, reports bdnews24.com.
Tangail Executive Magistrate Abdur Rahim supervised the procedure on Thursday, said Inspector Nazrul Islam of Modhupur police.
The family started for home around 4pm after receiving the body, the victim’s brother Hafizur Rahman told bdnews24.com.
Tangail District Magistrate Khan Md Nurul Amin, also the deputy commissioner of the district, passed an order the same day following request of Modhupur police’s Inspector Quayium Siddiqui on behalf of Rahman.
The Tangail judicial magistrate initially said the matter was beyond his jurisdiction when Hafizur made the plea.
Inspector Quayium Siddiqui (investigation) at Modhupur Police Station then moved to the district magistrate and secured the green light for Rahman.
Rupa, a resident of Sirajganj's Tarash, was raped and brutally killed on a moving Chhowa Paribahan bus on Friday night, according to a case started by Rahman. Rupa was buried as the body remained unclaimed at the time.
