A bicycle rider was killed and 11 passengers of a Lalmonirhat-bound bus were critically wounded when the bus rammed into the bicycle at Shah Amanat Filing Station point on the Rangpur-Dhaka highway under Mithapukur upazila of Rangpur on Sunday morning.
The deceased, carpenter Manik Mian (22) was the son of Abdus Samad, hailing from Pairaband Kaliganj village.
Azim Uddin, Officer-in-Charge (Investigation) of Mithapukur police station said, Manik fell down into the roadside ditch after colliding with the truck at 9:30 am and died on the spot.
Acting on a tip-off, police rushed to the spot, recovered the body, rescued the injured persons and sent them to Rangpur Medical College Hospital.
A case was filed in this connection with Mithapukur station, reports a local news agency.
