A court in Dhaka has sentenced Sohel Rana, the owner of collapsed Rana Plaza building, to three years in prison in a case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission or ACC.

The graft watchdog prosecuted Rana after he failed to file his wealth details following a notice served on him.

He will also have to pay a Tk 50,000 fine or spend another three months behind bars, reports bdnews24.com.

More than 1,000 people were killed, when the eight-storey building in Savar, which housed several garment factories, collapsed on Apr 24, 2013.

Four days later, police arrested Sohel Rana from the southwestern district of Jessore.

He is accused in six cases, including murder and building-code violations.

After Tuesday's verdict in the ACC case, Rana's counsel Faruq Ahmed told the media that they would challenge it in the higher court.
