Rajib Hossain, the Government Titumir College student who lost his right arm to a race between two buses in Dhaka recently, has died.

Rajib lost his battle for survival in the early hours of Tuesday at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH). DMCH Camp-in-charge Sub-inspector Bachhu Miah confirmed the matter to news agency UNB shortly afterwards.

Besides losing his right arm from the elbow, the college student had broken bones in the front and back of the head in the accident.

A bdnews24 reports says, Rajib was put on life support when he began having breathing difficulty at the hospital’s intensive care unit on Apr 10.

The undergraduate student’s arm was crushed between the two buses due to the reckless driving of the drivers of BTRC and Swajan Paribahan on April 3 last.

Rajib was first admitted to Panthapath’s Samorita Hospital and then transferred to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of DMCH.

The High Court earlier ordered the BRTC and Swajan Paribahan to pick the bill for Rajib’s treatment, and asked why they should not pay him Tk 10 million in damages.

Rajib lost his parents a few years ago. His two younger brothers are studying at a madrasa in Jatrabarhi.

He also lived in Jatrabarhi and worked at a computer shop.
