The Rapid Action Battalion or RAB has evacuated residents from a building in Mirpur's Mazar Road where a suspected terrorist is hiding.

The elite police unit has been making calls asking the suspect to surrender, its spokesperson Mufti Mahmud Khan said on Tuesday morning, reports a news agency.

The man described as a 'dangerous militant' is holed up inside along with his family, he said without confirming their numbers. One of the evacuee is the suspect's sister.

"We spoke on the phone with one suspect inside. We are continuing our communication. We have also successfully moved all residents to safety," said Khan.

He identified the suspect as 'Abdullah'. "We are telling to him to surrender. He said he'll think about it. He asked that we evacuate his sister."

Sixty-five residents have been evacuated to a school located near the building.

RAB has been surrounding the six-storey house at Darussalam Thana since Tuesday midnight following a tip-off received from two terror suspects detained in an earlier raid at Tangail's Elenga.

Several bombs, including some Molotov cocktails, were hurled towards the law enforcers from inside around 1:00am but no-one has been injured in the explosions, he said.

The holed up suspect has been storing high quality explosives in the hideout, it earlier said.
